This past winter I traveled across Spain with my good friend, Gerry Dawes, with stops in Galicia and other parts of northern Spain. Gerry has started a new business importing top quality, delicious and accessible Spanish wines. A number of the wineries included in his The Spanish Artisan Wine and Spirits Group come from the spectacular vineyards of Galicia as well as other parts of Spain.
This trip will bring us to some of the most beautiful vineyards and outstanding wineries that I have ever experienced with a welcome that is only available to insiders We will taste the crisp, clean and crustacean-loving Albariños; golden, glorious Godellos; and thoroughly terrific Treixaduras to represent the white wines of Galicia and the magnificent and mesmerizing Mencias highlighting the reds. With visits to D’Berto, Casa Gerardo, Etxebarri, Elkano and a Michelin three star in San Sebastian planned, amongst others, the supremacy of Spanish culinary product from the sea and the land will be emphasized during this 10 night itinerary that will start in Vigo in Galicia and end in Madrid after crossing most of northern Spain, from Galicia through Asturias to The Basque Country, then down to Navarra and finally, back to Madrid. Pristine product from the sea, sumptuous vegetables, choice cheeses and marvelous meats are all married with outstanding, mostly traditional technique for a once-in-a-lifetime taste of much of the best northern Spain has to offer.
The dates for this sense-sating journey involve a Wednesday, October 28th departure (arrival in Vigo and the formal start of the trip on Thursday, October 29th) to Sunday, November 8th return flight from Madrid.
