Sunday Photo – Old Friends at Cabin Creek

I had dinner the other night with some “old friends.” Amongst them were people I have known for some time. In addition there were some “old friends” that were new to me. The dinner was a benefit organized by Suzanne Carreker Voigt and put on by Slow Food Saratoga Region to benefit Old Friends at Cabin Creek, a farm that serves as a retirement home for thoroughbreds. There are currently twelve horses housed at the farm including a couple winners of the Travers Stakes, the most prestigious race at nearby Saratoga Race Course, and some horses of promise who’s careers had been cut short by injury as well as another who could never quite be first across the finish line despite 100 entries. It was a lovely place doing good work and it also turned out to be an excellent meal. Zest Caterers of Ballston Spa made the food using mostly local ingredients purchased from area farms. They did a very impressive job while working under challenging circumstances.
