Sunday Photo – Autumn Fire

The leaves have stayed on the trees late this autumn here in upstate NY and in northern New England as well, yet they lack the brilliant colors of most autumns. However, what was lacking in the leaves was present this year in the annual Homecoming Weekend bonfire at my alma mater, Dartmouth College. Many years, the night of the bonfire is either rainy, frigid cold or both, but this past Friday evening it was perfect – crisp with a clear, starry sky. The fire alit with a rapid conflagration radiating heat to all around and especially the members of the Freshman Class who run around the burning structure they built in an ever-flowing circle of energy. The glowing dance of the bonfire brings me back to my own student days at The College with plenty of good, crisp memories, but it is also of the here and now as we spent time with our son during his final bonfire and Homecoming Weekend as a student at Dartmouth.
