Sunday Photo – Irene

We were relatively lucky at my home. The only significant issue we faced other than my losing part of a post I was writing due to a sudden, but temporary power outage, was these trees that fell over part of my driveway, blocking my exit and ability to drive myself to work this past Monday. Unfortunately, many around where I live and elsewhere were not so fortunate. My friends at Kilpatrick Family Farm in nearby Granville estimate an approximate $100,000 loss of crops. I am totally sick about what happened to the beautiful state of Vermont with numerous roads washed out, covered bridges destroyed and people likely still without power. There is a big thunderstorm outside my window as I write this. I fear what additional problems these rains may cause for our local farmers and others. Fortunately, there are ways to help. Governor Cuomo and the State of New York have announced a “Labor for your Neighbor” program in which people can donate their physical labor and/or money to help those communities hardest hit in NY State by the storm.
