Taste of the Week – June 28 – July 4

We were at a whiskey tasting party Friday evening at the home of friends. We tasted around a dozen different Scotch and Irish whiskeys, with a good range of locations and styles represented. The one that stood out most favorably to me was the Caol Ila 12 year old from the Isle of Islay. It was smoky, peaty, smooth and delicious. beating out some other well known Scotches of greater age. The next most interesting whiskey was a single malt Irish whiskey – Knappogue Castle 1995, which was also full of smoke and nuance. More to come on this fun and delicious party.
