A Simple Island Picnic on Lake George

Beautiful days have been all too few and far between so far this summer. Today was one of the rare ones. We took advantage of it by getting together with some family for a very basic cookout on one of the islands of Lake George. We didn't do anything special – potato salad, spinach fettucine with basil, carrot, tomato and grated cheese, Lewis-Waite Farm hot dogs and hamburgers washed down with an Anchor Steam. I love creative food as much as anyone, but there are times that demand simplicity, when simplicity is perfection. Today was one such time. It was marvelous!

A fire starting chimney is a great cook-out tool anywhere.

We brought our own natural charcoal and supplemented with twigs and sticks.

The firepits on the islands do come in handy.

Simple hamburgers and great hot dogs were perfect for the day.

Toasted marshmallows and S'mores – of course!

Take out what you bring in – leave nothing behind.

Make sure the fire is extinguished.
